The Wizards – Dark Times: Brotherhood, a remaster of the 2020 hit with additional content from developer and publisher Carbon Studio, will hold an Open Beta starting September 15th, 2023.
According to today’s official Steam post, the beta event will run through September 30th, 2023. It will feature 6 maps, new enemies, and the brand-new cooperative mode. Additionally, players will get to share their experiences, find teammates, and offer feedback via the Discord server.
The Wizards – Dark Times: Brotherhood remaster is slated to roll out on October 19th, 2023. It will be available on Meta Quest and PC VR. You can watch the announcement trailer for the free update on the Carbon Studio YouTube channel:
Despite the long-winded name, fans are surely looking forward to this particular remaster. The old version of the game has a terrific gesture-based spellcasting mechanic, which remains smoother than some modern VR games.
This hook should be more than enough to intrigue fans of the genre, and the devs ensured that the spells would be highly distinguishable, encouraging players to invest time in mastering all of them.
And although The Wizards – Dark Times’ fantasy premise is a little generic, the art design has some very creative imagery. Its world will be far more compelling once you can explore it with friends, and the new co-op system supports parties of three.
Last month, the devs revealed in an FAQ that multiplayer mode would also include “new maps with unique objectives, challenging boss fight, news spells and enemies”.
Co-op is a very tricky addition, so hosting an Open Beta was a smart decision. There will likely be more than a few hiccups to resolve before October’s release, though negative fan feedback could push that date back, if necessary.
