The goal of Virtual Reality devices has always been to create a world that players can live in and interact with seamlessly. As a result, developers are constantly looking for new ways to level up VR experiences through their programs, often creating new tech to simulate gameplay effects. Haptic vests, for example, can apply pressure to a user that gets hit with gunfire or other effects.
While developers will try all they can, it often fails compared to the ingenuity presented by the players themselves. For example, recently, a Youtuber, Virtual Reality Oasis, posted a clip on Twitter of him using a rigged paintball gun to shoot himself when he takes a bullet in the game. In addition to the haptic vest he can be seen wearing, he’s taking projectiles being fired at him.
Paintballs are flying
The content creator, who also goes by Mike, has shared videos of him using VR equipment and testing out different games. In the most recent video on his channel, VR Oasis can be seen using a haptic vest and haptic trigger mod for his controller. He thoroughly enjoys how they feel, so it only seems natural that Oasis might want to take it to the next level.
In a recent tweet, he showed a new device that he’s been working with. In addition to his haptic vest, Oasis has rigged a paintball gun to shoot him every time he gets shot. In the short clip, Oasis takes a bullet and then takes a moment to catch his breath. The paintball striking him caught him off guard, and he had to take a minute to recompose himself.
The tweet promises a Youtube video soon containing more footage from Oasis’s experiment. He’s likely to take more paintballs when the video gets released later. It’s a unique use of a paintball gun and adds a new level of pain-based immersion to virtual reality.
Don’t try this at home
VR Oasis has been creating virtual reality content for some time. As someone with experience, he’s likely familiar with the equipment. Attempting to replicate this could easily lead to injury. In addition to being some distance away, Oasis is also wearing his haptic vest, which provides some protection.
It’s impressive how accurate the paintball gun is to where Oasis is standing. It shoots through his equipment and manages to hit him dead in the chest, causing an immediate reaction. Fans will have to wait until the video is uploaded later to see how many more times the creator gets hit.
