Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway VR adventure will let you relive your childhood

After an accident with their spaceship, Wallace and Gromit are once again on another adventure. This time in VR.

Wallace and Gromit is one of the most successful examples of the possibility of claymation, winning over 100 awards across the world, including multiple Academy Awards. Now the classic characters are going to be taking players on a new cinematic adventure through their universe, with the trailer showing some kind of alien planet.

The new narrative experience was announced at the Future Games Show, showing Wallace exiting some kind of crashed metal spaceship. A large metal grate falls off the top and Wallace walks out of the ship and comments, “What a cracker of a morning!” It’s not the most detailed teaser, but it does show the titular character and the alien planet where Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway takes place.

According to a press release attached to the announcement, this title will feature Wallace attempting to build his latest invention, the “Auto-Caddy.” However, due to something going wrong, they have been blasted through space before crash landing on an alien planet, but Wallace doesn’t seem to mind much.

This isn’t a game, instead being referred to as a narrative experience that will be hosted solely on the Meta Quest at some point later this year. While the VR avenue might be new, the Wallace and Gromit series has been going since the late 1980s, which will make this new narrative experience all the more impressive to see when it releases.

There aren’t many experiences that mix claymation and VR so it’s unclear how much work is involved, but it has to be a considerable amount on top of what is already a complicated and time-consuming art style.
