Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 2 has just been released and with it come a lot of new changes and features to the game. This is always an exciting time because Epic tries out a variety of new stuff and adds a bunch of different things that players haven’t experienced before. A bit of a unique addition is the red and blue lines you will see on the map. If you’re curious what these are, we’ll tell you in this guide!

Red and Blue lines on the map

The red and blue lines on the map in Fortnite are designating the areas that either the IO (Imagined Order) or The Seven control. These are the story factions in the game, so in terms of gameplay, the lines really make no difference currently. The red represents the IO’s control, and the blue represents The Seven’s control.

The Imagined Order, or simply IO, is a centuries-old institution that has been in charge of The Loop for thousands of years. They had been dwelling in the shadows until The Looper was rifted into The Bridge during The Device Event in Chapter 2: Season 2. They use the Zero Point to influence realities (often significantly disturbing their evolution) as well as travel through them; according to The Foundation, they threaten to upset The Omniverse’s balance, but they are willing to pay any price to satisfy their thirst for knowledge and power.

With the end of Season 3, the Seven made their first appearance in Battle Royale. However, until the start of the next Season, it remained unknown that it was connected to the Seven. Season 4, Season X, Chapter 2: Season 6, Chapter 2: Season 8, and Chapter 3: Season 1 have all featured the Seven. The term comes from the fact that there are seven leading members. Their major purpose, according to what is known about them, is to end the Imagined Order, liberate The Zero Point, and destroy The Loop. Their armors are all airtight, making them impervious to memory resets by the Loop. They’re also well-versed in the Omniverse, Rift, and Cube.
