This summer will mark six years that Dead by Daylight has been frightening players with gruesome kills and classic jumpscares. However, that’s just one of the ways that Dead by Daylight brings players back to the Entity’s realm time and time again. Behaviour Interactive keeps its game fresh with constant updates featuring new characters, cosmetics, and quality of life improvements. As the game prepares for the release of the Sadako Rising DLC, it’s also trying out some new ways to do classic mechanics.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to turn the mechanic on and off as well as the bonus you can currently receive for using it. To enable and disable the new wiggle mechanic, you’ll have to go into the settings menu and click the Beta tab at the top.

How to Use Dead by Daylight’s New Wiggle Mechanic

This new mechanic will replace pressing keys repeatedly or wiggling the joystick with a double-sided skill check. If you can get good skill checks, you’ll be dropped by the Killer in 16 seconds. However, if you can get all Great Skill Checks while struggling, the Killer will drop you in 15 seconds instead.

Succeeding with all Great Skill Checks will be more challenging because their zone will shrink with each successful check. Also, your skill checks have to be continuous, or you run the risk of having your progress reset when you fail a skill check. You have to press the button around once per second, which will help you count until the Killer releases you.

In addition to the new opt-in wiggle, players get 25 Bloodpoints towards Survival for each good skill check. The most recent update removed the regression of the Wiggle Meter. This mechanic would subtract 0.05 of the wiggle progress per second the player was on the ground or otherwise not wiggling. Before being taken out, this would cause the entire Wiggle Meter to drop after 5 minutes and 20 seconds.

This change comes after years of fans asking for Behaviour to get rid of the more intensive actions in the game. This seems to align with the game’s other change to switch the final hook stage from a button-mashing frenzy to a skill check. By making its mechanics more accessible to all kinds of people, Dead by Daylight can continue to grow its player base.

That’s all you need to know about Dead by Daylight’s new wiggle mechanic.
