Featured Fortnite What Is Melee Damage

Fortnite is one of the most played Battle Royale games in the world right now, and has a ton of things to know and learn on your journey to getting more experience with it. While some terms might be familiar to veteran players of FPS and games in general, there’s always people coming up in the gaming world that might not understand all of the lingo. If you’re curious as to what melee damage is in Fortnite, we’ll explain it to you in this guide!

Fortnite Melee Damage

Melee damage in Fortnite is done by hitting an enemy player or NPC with your Harvesting Tool aka Pickaxe. This is generally pretty difficult, because you will need to get up close to another character and hit them. Each swing will deal 20 damage to the enemy if you land it on them.

In other words, you can only do melee damage with the pickaxe or harvesting tool that you harvest resources with. You will only get credit for the damage in a challenge if you hit another player OR you hit an enemy NPC. This would be an IO Guard or any other non-player controlled character that will shoot at you if you get too close.

Fortnite Melee Weapon Example

Getting melee damage can be quite difficult because the other players aren’t just going to sit there and let you hit them with your pickaxe. It’s best to do this at the beginning of the game when players might not have any weapons to use. Land at a popular spot and try to grab any gun before they can get it. You can then rush at them with your pickaxe.

Alternatively, you can just land on someone who is attempting to hack through a roof and get to a chest when everyone is settling in. It takes time to get through the the wall or roof and then to open up the chest. You can occasionally get sneaky kills by using this method.

Enemy NPCs are also a good option if you don’t have the patience to hot drop. Just land at a location like Covert Cavern and sneak up behind one of them. You should be able to hit them enough times before they kill you to complete whatever challenge you are working on!
