World of Horror, a punishing 1-bit horror roguelite from solo developer panstasz and publisher Ysbryd Games, has teased a major update alongside a stylish new color palette.

The game has been in early access for years, but the full game is expected to launch on major consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5 sometime this year. Fans can expect multiple new features in “the biggest” update yet:

The art design plays a major role in World of Horror’s success, thanks to the distinct influence of famous manga artist Junji Ito. Their sensibilities are deeply creative and unsettling, a genuinely unique twist on Lovecraftian and surreal horror.

Polish developer panstasz has been able to wield these elements for World of Horror, creating an unnerving and immersive experience with steep consequences. Surprisingly, it was also built in Microsoft Paint, giving it an extra degree of rugged charm and mystery.

As a result, World of Horror’s library of color palettes have been a big deal for fans since 2020, and they responded to today’s palette with unanimous praise. New color palettes don’t just change the atmosphere of the game. They can also be more comfortable or accessible. And even in 2019, panstasz’s early palette work went viral:

World of Horror has remained one of the most successful indie horror games without losing its cult status. Even when the devs finally release the full game, it stands a very good chance of retaining its underground charm, akin to Signalis. Although World of Horror might play differently on console, and feel a little strange, there is more than enough flavor and innovation to find new audiences.

Fans have asked for a variety of features, but can only speculate on the major update for now. It should be noted that the “features” mentioned in today’s tease would not necessarily involve more content.
