Xbox has been going through a lot of changes in the last few years, with the success of Xbox Game Pass seemingly shifting Microsoft’s focus on its gaming branch. As such, the Xbox Games with Gold program is coming to an end on Sept. 1, likely to be replaced by the new Xbox Gold program combination with Game Pass. There’s still one month left though, and Xbox has just announced the games for August 2023.

With only one month left, Xbox made the typical Games with Gold announcement with a blog post detailing the two free games, Blue Fire and Inertial Drift. The former is a 3D action platformer and the latter is a 90s-inspired drifting game. It’s a unique combination of titles that offer something for different players, with both games being heavily stylized.

The blog post also states that anyone who is still subscribed to Xbox Gold on Sept. 14 will be transitioned into the new program, Xbox Game Pass Core. This program will work in the same way as Games with Gold, starting with a library of 25 free games, with more to be added in the future. Member deals and discounts for subscriptions will continue as normal.

Players will be able to access any previous Xbox Games with Gold as long as they retain the Xbox Game Pass Core or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, otherwise, they’ll be locked. That being said, players will retain all previously owned games on their accounts whether they’re subscribed or not, but they won’t be playable without it.
