Forza Horizon 5, the latest sequel in the hit racing franchise, will officially be released in a bundle with the Xbox Series X. The bundle will include Forza Horizon 5’s Premium Edition, as well as the second expansion for the game “when it launches”. A release window still wasn’t confirmed for this expansion.
The full announcement from Xbox Wire states that the bundle will roll out this week in “US, Canada and select markets in Asia”, while Europe and other regions will get it “later this month”.
Forza Horizon 5 is currently available on the Xbox Game Pass, so the bundle won’t be very appealing to subscribers. However, the Premium Edition adds a decent amount of content, and is currently selling for $100 USD value on the Microsoft Store. Although an Xbox Game Pass subscription has a deal to knock off $20, it’s still more value than similar console bundles.
The game itself has received some glowing reviews from most critics, for fine-tuning various strengths from the series. The visuals are certainly stunning, which makes it an ideal partner for a next-gen console.
However, the game did release over a year ago, leaving some Xbox fans disappointed. By comparison, PlayStation smartly rolled out a God of War Ragnarok bundle last November. Although it didn’t feature a themed console, at least God of War Ragnarok was brand-new, and the series is one of PlayStation’s biggest.
Perhaps Xbox doesn’t have as many flagship franchises anymore. Halo interest has declined since 343 took over the story, lied about split-screen features, and let an incomplete Halo Infinite crash on arrival.
Forza Horizon 5 may not have the same clout Halo once did, but at least longtime fans of that series enjoyed their latest installment. Besides, the promise of the “second expansion” should be a great incentive, since it has the potential to add a lot more content.
