The developer behind titles like Cthulu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII: The Beginning has announced that he will be stepping away from Zeboyd Games after 10 years. Bill Stiernberg made the announcement in the afternoon of July 7, stating that the team would continue on without him.
Zeboyd Games is the developer behind high-selling RPG titles and was founded around 2009 by Robert Boyd and Bill Stiernberg. The company’s first title, a parody of numbered RPG titles, Breath of Death VII, sold over 40,000 copies when it was released in 2010. Stiernberg posted the announcement on his Twitter, stating that he made the decision to move on.
The replies to his announcement are filled with players and fans showing appreciation for the time and dedication that he put into making each new title. In one reply, Stiernberg states that he’s looking to increase his coding knowledge and push himself by becoming a better artist. This follows his statement of saying he wanted to improve his game development knowledge moving forward.
Stiernberg has largely been in charge of the art in Zeboyd’s titles so it will be interesting to see if the company is undergoing any major style shifts. In that same vein, it will be interesting to see what the developer is able to bring to the table for his next title.
In his sign-off, he encourages players to play all of Zeboyd Games’ titles, like the most recent This Way Madness Lies, which was released on November 10, last year.
