Sclash, the upcoming hand-drawn samurai fighting game from developer Bevel bakery, will officially postpone its console release until “later 2023”, according to a new tweet from publisher Just For Games.
They didn’t cite a particular reason, other than needing more time to keep the console ports on track. A new release date hasn’t been confirmed either, though it’s expected to “follow soon”.
The delay doesn’t seem to affect the PC version. Back in May, the devs revealed a release date for August 4th, 2023. Later this year, the supported consoles will include the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Today’s tweet is certainly vague, but it does hint that some fresh news is expected to be revealed tomorrow. It’s unclear if the new release date will be revealed, but unlikely. The devs will probably need more time to work on the console ports.
Instead, fans can probably expect to learn more about the PC version, such as some key in-game features, a roadmap for the future, or even a physical edition.
The beautiful hand-drawn artwork in Sclash would definitely warrant a physical release, especially since special editions often include an art book. The old school, plug-n-play attitude of Sclash also makes it fitting for a hard copy.
Sclash has intentionally simple, arcade-style gameplay that features intense, short duels with one-hit kills. This may disappoint fans of the genre who were hoping for more, but there’s still stamina and breath management. Also, a streamlined approach will be accessible for casual gamers, and it emphasizes the attractive theme.
