505 Games is an Italian publisher best known for hits like Death Stranding and Control, and they’ve just revealed some of their new titles with pretty extensive details.
The complete showcase premiered on May 17th, 2022, which you can find on YouTube.
505 has a habit of making gold out of smaller games, such as Portal Knights, which combined the charm of fantasy RPGs with the creativity of Minecraft.
This kind of remarkable range was on display throughout today’s livestream, and although it only revealed a couple of new titles, it focused on in-depth featurettes.
Among the Trolls
The first release revealed a brief, narrated trailer that emphasized the mystery of a forest. The game literally involves Trolls, which is a survival adventure that’s inspired by genuine folklore.
The game stars a Finnish-American protagonist, which provides some great representation, and their tragic backstory holds a genuinely emotional punch. The story also has an environmental angle.
These are the features that will help distinguish the game from its peers, because aside from the Trolls, the mechanics involve a lot of familiar traits like heavy crafting. It will be available sometime later this year.
Stray Blade
This game features an anthropologist, who is killed and seeking a way to return home. One of the highlights of this game is clearly the special animal companion, a mysterious and anthropomorphic little wolf.
He joins the combat mechanics, supporting the player with his own skill tree and so forth. It’s similar to a Palico from Monster Hunter.
It’s also fun to hear that the locations will change throughout the gameplay, adding more variety to something that sounds a little bogged down by generic adventure and combat. The graphics are a little low, but this should improve over time. Curious fans can sign up for the beta right away.
Eiyuden Chronicle
This was a surprise franchise, thanks to the Kickstarter darling Hundred Heroes. There will be two action RPGs, beginning with Eiyuden Chronicle Rising, a “prequel” that establishes new characters.
The side-scroller seems to focus on collecting items, but the storybook art design is pretty charming. And new areas do introduce interesting monsters beyond the small town you’ll begin in. Fans can check this one out right away!
Miasma Chronicles
The showcase concluded with a sneak peek of this higher budget title, featuring a cinematic trailer with robots, a mysterious dark force and a high-tech glove.
The protagonist’s mother gifted the powerful glove to him, but now seems to be lost beyond a magical wall. With the help of a robot, players will seek to find and rescue her. The graphics are fun, although the voice acting is a little lacking. This one will come out sometime in 2023.
