Balatro, a new poker-themed game where you build a deck and try to survive, has been really successful. It made over $1 million in just eight hours after it came out. This makes it the fastest-selling game ever for Playstack, the company that made it.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Balatro was developed by a single developer named LocalThunk. The game not only reached a significant sales milestone within hours but also became profitable within just one hour of its release. This rapid success extends beyond financial achievements, with LocalThunk revealing that the game sold over 250,000 copies across PC, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch within the first three days of availability.

Playstack CEO, Harvey Elliott, shared his excitement about the game’s success, recognizing the challenges of publishing partnerships and the importance of Balatro’s profitability milestone. He praised both LocalThunk, the game’s developer, and the Playstack publishing team for their remarkable achievement.

“We are floored by Balatro’s success. All publishing partnerships are to some extent a leap of faith, and the sobering industry news of the last twelve months has made each leap seem further. So we understand it’s a rare privilege to note that Balatro reached game-profitability within an hour following release.”

LocalThunk, overwhelmed by the positive reception and immense support, expressed gratitude to the game’s fans and Playstack for making this achievement possible. LocalThunk said they dedicated themselves to the development of Balatro. They were initially going to share it with a close circle of friends and family but were glad it went out further.
