What Are Subpowers in A Universal Time?
Subpowers are a new progression system in AUT. They act as sub-specs that can be added to your current moveset, allowing you to enhance your abilities. Subpowers range from additional offensive abilities to utility moves, adding new possibilities to your character’s builds.
Each Subpower is specific to an ability, meaning unlocking a Subpower for one ability does not transfer it to others. However, if you have multiple copies of the same ability, you can use the same subpower across all copies if you’ve unlocked it for that ability.

Subpowers have high move priority, meaning their keybinds may overwrite existing abilities. You can fix this by resetting your keybinds in the settings. Each subpower has a unique method of acquisition.
Now, let’s go over the three main aspects of the subpower system: Weight, Stages, and Points.
Weight System
There’s no strict limit to how many subpowers you can equip at once, but the Weight system restricts how many can be equipped. Each subpower has an assigned weight value, and you cannot equip subpowers if their combined weight exceeds your weight threshold. You can have a total weight of 10 Subpowers, meaning it’s impossible to equip them all, and the more powerful Subpowers weigh more.
Stages
Stages refer to levels within a subpower. Each subpower has its own individual stage progression. As you increase a subpower’s stage, its potency increases—whether that be damage, stun duration, or other attributes. The maximum stage a subpower can reach is Stage 5.
Points
You increase subpower stages by earning points. These points are obtained by defeating NPCs while the subpower is equipped. The more you level up, the more NPCs you’ll need to defeat to earn subpower points. After reaching the required points, your subpower will level up to the next stage.
