Pizza Possum, an indie arcade-style action game about a possum snacking on as much food as possible, will officially launch on September 28th, 2023. The date was announced with a new gameplay trailer featuring sneaky escapes, amusing dialogue, and a colorful world filled with enemies out to catch you.
Developed by Cosy Computer and published by Raw Fury, it will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with no word on plans for last-gen releases. You can watch today’s new trailer on the Raw Fury YouTube channel:
Pizza Possum doesn’t reveal too much in today’s trailer that fans haven’t already seen in previous ones. However, the swinging soundtrack, co-op footage, and snappy editing really capture the sense of urgency that gives Pizza Possum some proper arcade chaos.
For those who weren’t familiar with the previous teasers, today’s new footage definitely sells the basic premise well. Players are simply a possum, out to eat as much as they can without getting caught, using the environment to hide and a wide range of special items to distract patrols.
The new footage showcases how players can get pretty inventive while eluding patrols, and how pushing your luck can cost the game. It seems like a blend of Pac-Man and classic 3D side-scrollers, which could be very rewarding.
And while all of this may sound quite simple, the game’s official Steam page notes that it’s intended to be “a short and sweet arcade experience”, complete with 2 player local co-op. The other player can play as a raccoon, which is still fun, but a bit on the nose compared to the oddball hero. Either way, doubling the arcade rush with co-op is certain to improve the gameplay.
