Murder on the Orient Express is perhaps one of the most interesting and famous mystery tales in literary history, and it has been adapted in nearly every possible way. Many adaptations have struggled to capture the same degree of intrigue, characterization, or surprise. They’re often bogged down trying to justify their existence.

Microids is already set to publish the Hercule Poirot game The London Case, which recently announced an August release date. However, although they published Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The First Cases to positive reviews, that was developed by Blazing Griffin. The new Orient Express title was made in house.

According to the game’s Steam page, Microids’ version of Orient Express will add new story elements set in 2023, and even a fresh hero named Joanna Locke. Still, it will see the return of familiar mechanics from The First Cases, so at least Microids doesn’t seem to be changing what worked. But the art design seems torn between vintage nostalgia and the modern approach, a central hook for the game.

The Deluxe Edition has a surprisingly extensive art book, which is nice. The bookmark had a great idea, but an outright mock ticket would have been neater. Overall, it seems like a worthwhile investment, depending on the price tag.
