Smalland, the new survival and adventure RPG about tiny heroes from developer and publisher Merge Games, has just released its first major update “Giant’s Fall” along with a new trailer. The update will feature a new metal building tier, swarming colony spiders, bug fixes and more.
Smalland recently launched in March and is available now in Early Access on PC. You can watch the full Giant’s Fall Update trailer on the Merge Games YouTube channel:
Smalland has naturally drawn many comparisons to Grounded, given that both of them feature tiny protagonists trying to survive against the elements and other new threats that come with being small.
However, players have also noted similarities to Valheim, for the better. Smalland tinkers with the mechanics of both to create something distinguishable, with armor that’s fun to craft. The Pyrite armour set added in Giant’s Fall is no exception. Also, the multiplayer capacity definitely makes it fun for large groups of friends.
The graphics have a surprising level of quality, with unexpected detail in its environments and critters. Along with some smooth movement, there’s a solid sense of immersion that makes exploration truly rewarding. So, any new location is certainly a highlight for Smalland updates.
The Catapults are another fun addition in Giant’s Fall, since they lean towards the playful side of the game, and can also legitimately help with map traversal.
Most of the quality-of-life changes are minor, although players should really pay attention to the new boundary feature, discouraging players from testing the edge of the map. Likewise, the bug fixes don’t address anything too spectacular, but official server support is still on the way according to the roadmap released in March.
