In a new showcase today, developer and publisher Aeternum Game Studios has revealed two big announcements. These include an upcoming Virtuoso DLC for Aeterna Noctis, and the developers’ brand-new cyberpunk IP Eden Genesis. The showcase also featured some assorted behind-the-scenes details about Summum Aeterna.
Virtuoso will add a new Boss Rush, and is due later this year. Eden Genesis is slated to launch in 2024, and will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.
Summum Aeterna didn’t reveal much in today’s showcase, despite its lengthy portion, because it simply gives an overview of the mechanics. It’s already available in Early Access, and the Steam page even mentions that the devs don’t plan to alter the fundamentals of its “playable core” at full launch. The full launch window for September has been around since the Legacy of the Arcana update and trailer.
Virtuoso doesn’t reveal any actual gameplay, and instead focuses on a “cinematic” featuring the antagonist, which plays more like a motion comic. This gives you the basic premise, but it still feels a little awkward.
The approach for Eden Genesis, the highlight of the showcase, was much smarter. The announcement is kept to a minimum, showing off some basic art design and imagery.
It’s nice to see that Aeternum Game Studios is finally breaking into new territory. The devs joke that Eden Genesis won’t be an Aeterna Kart game, and carefully confirm that it’s an introduction to a new universe altogether.
The cyberpunk artwork is fairly traditional with plenty of colorful neon, as well as a futuristic city and vehicle. But it does look decent, and the shot of the city’s long road does hint at the “epic” scope of the game today’s showcase promises.
