There are very few details about the Age of Mythology: Retold game coming. Luckily, Windows Central interviewed a developer for Age of Empires to find out more. In an interview, Studio Creative Director Adam Isgreen spoke about how this is more than just a remaster or definitive edition of the game; they’re redoing it in a new but familiar way.
Unlike the upgrades other Age of Empires games received, Age of Mythology: Retold will undergo a full remake from scratch. This means substantial changes to the gameplay, including the God Powers and mythical units. While precise details are still unknown, the developers have confirmed their commitment to considering community input and striving to deliver an experience that pays homage to the original game while addressing its flaws.
Isgreen was asked about the new expansions or DLC that may come since the other Age of Empires games are getting them. He wanted to clarify that this isn’t just adding a bunch of content into one package and making it look better. Isgreen stated that this is a remake like we’d imagine for other games.
One notable aspect of Retold is that it will be launched on both Xbox and PC simultaneously. This is a first for the Age of Empires series and could potentially attract new players to the world of mythology-inspired strategy. Additionally, features from the console edition of Age of Empires II, like the Villager Priority system, will be included in the PC version of Retold, making the game more accessible to players of all levels.
To me, this sounds like a remaster or a definitive edition, but the developer is adamant that it’s not. We’ll see, though.
“Just on a personal note, I absolutely love Mythology to death. There’s a reason we wanted to wait to do this because Retold is much more than Age. There’s a reason we didn’t call it ‘Definitive Edition’ because many of us in the studio and many of the fans love Mythology. We all know there’s this amazing, amazing game inside of Age of Mythology that maybe didn’t get all of it just quite right out the gate, and that’s what we’re doing this time around with Retold.”

While there isn’t much information available about Retold at the moment, other games in the series were spoken about. For example, the Age of Empires: Mobile was discussed, and some details were revealed. We go over Age of Empires: Mobile in detail in another report.
