Leading up to the beginning of season 13, Apex Legends has released a slew of new content, including a character trailer for Newcastle today.

Here’s the official tweet, where you can watch the short trailer:

The trailer is narrated by Newcastle and Bangalore, who clearly has some ongoing resentment about her brother’s new life and secrets. Still, they both go on to explain how Newcastle’s abilities will work.

Fans already know about Newcastle’s knockdown shield, which triggers while he drags a knocked teammate. However, the trailer revealed a lot more details about how his tactical energy shield functions.

To begin with, it turns out that Newcastle’s tactical shield can be broken, and that it’s modular. The trailer shows Revenant firing a Charge Rifle through the top half of the shield. This means that teammates should still expect some cover from the lower half, even if the other part is destroyed.

Next, Newcastle fires back at Revenant while the energy shield is still deployed. So, he won’t be tied up by the tactical, which also ended up offering a mobile effect. This has the potential to drastically change final zones, which often have little cover.

The Lifeline controversy

It all adds up to a lot of gloom for Lifeline mains, who remain irritated that all of her abilities have gradually become available in some way for everyone.

Between the new smart supply bins that act like her care package, and Newcastle’s ability to protect and revive at will, Lifeline is almost completely undermined. Hopefully, there will be a total rework for the legend, such as restoring her fast heals from Season One.

It’s great to see another defensive addition for the game, but it’s definitely time for a closer look at the existing legends. Many new legends appear to stand out by compromising the old ones, and fans don’t want to give up a main that they’ve probably purchased heirloom shards for.
