Astroneer, the hit indie space exploration and sandbox game from developer and publisher System Era Softworks, has released a new trailer for the Custom Games update that rolls out today. The big update will allow players to modify planet generation, permadeath, hardcore modes, speedruns and more.
Astroneer’s Custom Games will be available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. At this time, the devs haven’t confirmed when the update will be added to Nintendo Switch, but that will be revealed “soon” according to yesterday’s tweet.
Astroneer originally launched in full years ago, and is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. You can watch today’s Custom Games update trailer on the Astroneer YouTube channel:
Astroneer has continued to update since launch with surprising regularity, evolving in creative new ways. In fact, Astroneer even released a graphic novel from Titan Comics back in March. Akin to No Man’s Sky, the longevity and dedication from the devs has been unexpected and welcome. Its charming art design, physics, and emphasis on science keep this indie timeless.
Astroneer has always thrived with a sense of discovery and freedom, so Custom Games are definitely going to renew interest. Today’s trailer may only raise awareness about an update that’s arriving on the same day, but it does include some playful inspiration with a friendly sense of humor.
The game already offered an exhaustive variety of tools that players use for misadventures. Although the new Custom Games tools may not be quite as extensive as certain comparable titles, they’re still very flexible, especially for an indie.
This update is really going to celebrate and connect the community, so hopefully the Nintendo Switch will get this content soon.
