Days of Doom, a new post-apocalyptic roguelite full of zombies, mutants and raiders, has just been announced from developer SneakyBox and publisher Atari. The game will feature eight different hero classes, a dozen enemy types, over fifty random events and more.

Days of Doom has not confirmed a release date, but it is “coming soon” according to today’s trailer. It will be available on PC, Atari, the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, or Xbox Series X|S. There’s no word on an Xbox One release. You can watch today’s announcement trailer on Atari’s YouTube channel:

It’s a delight to see Atari pick up steam, as they continue to announce new titles. They recently announced the platformer Mr. Run and Jump, which was also small, but perhaps a little more striking than Days of Doom.

This little roguelite just feels a bit generic, especially for a genre that is already so cramped. There is no real hook or twist. But if it can excel, maybe that would be enough for casual players. There will be a lot of random events and dozens of items to discover, which certainly offers plenty of content.

Either way, Days of Doom has a friendly and homegrown look that’s pretty neat. According to the game’s Steam page, the art design is hand-drawn, and this approach does make a big impression. It should encourage players to explore.

The supernatural abilities of the main characters also seem fun, simply by mashing together so many familiar tropes such as a genuine waterbender and a masked gunslinger. It was smart to indulge some more fantasy elements, instead of relying on zombies alone, which could have easily buried this game in the white noise of its competitors.
