Atlas Fallen, the upcoming adventure and action RPG from developer Deck13 and publisher Focus Entertainment, has just released the amusing new live-action trailer “Lord of the Sands”.
The name does appear to be a Lord of the Rings reference, as the trailer features a device similar to a palantír and an old, wizard-like man. Further, the accompanying new tweet from Focus Entertainment references Saruman’s iconic “so you have chosen death” quote.
Atlas Fallen will launch next week on August 10th, 2023, and is coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are available now, and fans can also invest in a Limited Edition. You can watch today’s odd little trailer on the Focus Entertainment YouTube channel:
Atlas Fallen has already revealed more than enough gameplay footage and details about the mechanics to help casual players decide if they’ll invest. Fans can check out the central sand gliding in today’s teaser in the “Behind the Sand” video, or momentum and abilities in the combat trailer.
With little left to reveal, and just a week until launch, it seems the marketing simply decided to aim for nostalgia and jokes. This is sort of an old school trailer, where it doesn’t actually have a point or even need one. It’s always a delight when trailers try to get creative.
Today’s teaser certainly swings for the fences, and the approach always risks falling into cringeworthy territory. However, the trailer seems to know what it is, at least enough to be more amusing than awkward, and Lord of the Rings references are generally fun.
The new teaser also reminds fans about the Limited Edition, which offers some really neat artwork for the box and steelbook.
