Best Dark Magician Deck In Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel

The Dark Magician has faithfully served duel masters since the oldest version of the card game. In this guide, learn how to build a modern and meta Dark Magician deck to conquer the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel ladder.
Ygo Master Dm Deck

The Dark Magician has been a fan favorite monster since the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. The ultimate wizard in terms of attack and defense has faithfully served his duelist masters over the years, and in turn the TCG has been very kind to him in terms of updated support cards and deck builds. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to make the ultimate Dark Magician deck in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel.

Best Dark Magician Deck

What makes this Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Dark Magician deck so powerful is the ability to search up the exact cards you want. This deck features so many cards that allow you to draw or special summon the exact spell or monster that you want, meaning you don’t have to rely so heavily on RNG to get your cards out on the board.

Ygo Master Dm Cards

The power in this deck is in summoning the Dark Magician himself and keep him on the board. Cards like Soul Servant allow you to pull and summon Dark Magician from the bottom of your deck, or return him to the game when he’s been sent to the graveyard. With powerful spells like Dark Magic Attack and Eternal Soul, your Dark Magician maintains a ton of staying power so the enemy can’t spell or trap card him off the board.

How To Play The Deck

You’ll want to establish control of the board early into the match by getting Dark Magician on the field. An easy way to do this is to send Dark Magician to your graveyard using Magicians’ Souls, and then special summoning him from the graveyard using Eternal Soul. Once Eternal Soul is on the board, your Dark Magician also becomes impervious to spell and trap effects, helping him stay on the field longer. However, if Eternal Soul is removed, all your monster cards are sent to the graveyard, so be careful.

When Dark Magic Circle is on the field, special summoning Dark Magician allows you to banish one card the opponent controls off the field. This gives you incredibly powerful removal potential and makes your ability to constantly resummon Dark Magician a frustratingly effective force.

Magician’s Rod is an important card in this deck for this very reason. The card can be used to constantly draw the exact spell card you need, which lets you use Dark Magic Attack and Dark Magic Circle when you really need it. It also allows you to return Dark Magician from your graveyard to your hand, affording you even more Dark Magician return power.

This Dark Magician deck plays as a control deck with a slow tempo, so while it can be frustratingly difficult for your opponent to get an opening on you, you lack any real finisher with Dark Magician alone. Amulet Dragon serves as a great finisher; It has the effect to banish any number of spell cards in either graveyard, gaining 100 attack points per spell. Essentially, Amulet Dragon serves as a weaker version of Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon, which is banned in Master Duel.

Keep control of the board until you can summon Amulet Dragon. Use your weaker effect monsters like Magician’s Rod to summon Dark Magician, and then throw out Red-Eyes Black Dragon or Dark Magician Girl to keep yourself from being overwhelmed. Make good use of your link monsters and summons, and you should be able to pace your opponent until you get your big fusion monsters on the board. Amulet Dragon allows you to special summon Dark Magician from the graveyard when defeated, so even when you lose your heavy hitter you’re still bringing Dark Magician back on the board for another chance at fusion.

Your description of eternal soul is inaccurate. The card states dark magician is unaffected by your opponents “card” effects meaning monsters ,spells , and trap effects on the field hand or grave yard or even extra deck do not affect in anyway the dark magician on the field while eternal soul is in play

  2. Bigmike

Can u explain the link summoning potential

    1. Menne

The main gimmick of this deck is bouncing around DM to abuse Dark Magical Circle to Banish a card per turn while being immune with Eternal Souls. While this deck, especially this variant, isn’t built for some of the DM extenders, Selene is a pretty useful Link since she can resurrect a Spellcaster from the grave onto the field which you can then use to climb into Accesscode and have a pretty beefy Link 4 monster on the field. Other cards that can help you swarm the field with Spellcasters that go with DMs are Magician’s Salvation, Bond Between Teacher and Student, and Magician’s Navigation, the last actually being in the deck. I prefer running Masquerena in my extra deck which is great for summoning either Selene or Unicorn on your opponent’s turn and disrupting their flow, while also sending any DM you have back to the grave. This deck has too many Amulet Dragons, it’s honestly so-so, DM the DK is definitely the 2nd best DM fusion. There’s lots of versatility that can be had depending on what you put in your extra deck.

  3. Bigmike

U can add left and tight hand if the magician to make this deck even more powerful

  4. ParSushi

I don´t get why there is Norito the Moral Leader when there are just 1 card with level 6. can you explain me that? I’m a new to the game so I don’t understand all. Thanks!

    1. Menne

Nobito the Moral Leader is a Rank 6 xyz, which is easy to make with Apprentice Illusion Magician and DMG, 2 of the 4 level 6 mons in the deck, and aside from having a very good effect, Ebon Illusion Magician, our Rank 7 xyz, can be immediately summoned using Nobito as material, and his effect is even better with DM. Hope this clears up any confusion

  5. KingDrac0691

This deck is amazing. Not sure the purpose of magicians’ combination though. I’ve been using the deck lately and it’s not served a viable purpose. I feel like Palladium Oracle Mahad would be better, especially with soul servant

  6. JustCoby

How can I get solemn judgment I don’t see it at all

  7. tyterx

Could you give more details on how to use the extra deck?

  8. JDW-

I am almost ready to start using this deck, wonder how it will be. Thanks for sharing, nice guide.

  9. Alphasmith

Hello, I am trying to make your deck but Magician’s Soul and Magician’s Combination are not showing up in the search.

    1. tyterx

Select related cards on the dark magician card and they’ll show up there

  10. CoffeeWitchTiel

Seeing as how Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is banned, it seems pretty pointless to run Red-Eyes Black Dragon in the deck.

    1. Erik Hodges

Red-Eyes can be used as fusion material for Dark Magician The Dragon Knight, though it’s mostly included because it’s a favorite card of mine — any dragon card can do the job 🙂

      1. Whodatguy

Would I need a fusion card in order to fuse them or do I just need to put them on the field???

        1. Jkenyon95

Eye of timaeus will work fine and secrets of dark magic is also a fusion card too dont forget so im sure you will draw 1 of those eventually

      2. BanditKeith

Why would you add him at all though? When you have eye of timeaus you don’t need him in the deck, correct? And the only way to get him on the field would be by tribute of two monsters yes? Seems to me it makes a lot more sense adding another dark magic attack. Can’t believe you only have 1! Great deck though, the extra deck gave me some ideas for my DM for sure

  11. Eman

I’m new to the game and I would love if someone would make a video about this deck

    1. Yugi Muto

Im also keen on watching someone with greater knowledge explain the in’s and outs.
Ive been playing the deck for about 2 days now and it felt giga useless at first, but after 5 games you quickly find about what to combo and it gets ridiculous in its power.

  12. Rey

Is dark magicians soul banned in master duel? I cant find it when creating the deck

    1. Deakar

It isn’t. You just have to enter the cards name correctly 😀 Not copy just write 😀

  13. Naitoraito

Hello, tnx for the guide, but what about “Dark Magician of the Dragon Knight”? I thought this is must have for this deck becouse of Eternal Souls negative effect.

  14. KaizokuT971

    Hello Erik,
It’s a nice deck that you have presented.
The information about how to play it are great and well explainded.
However, Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is banned from Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel.
Would be great if you could present a deck without it ?
    Thank you !

    1. Erik Hodges

Thanks for the heads up! Deck guide has been updated to reflect this. Thanks!
