Best Starter Deck In Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel

In our opinion, the best starter deck to choose in Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel is Synchro of Unity. While each of the starter decks have merit, and the selection is fairly balanced, Synchro of Unity comes with some clear advantages over it’s contemporary options.

To explain why we believe Synchro of Unity is the best starter deck and to help you pick which deck is right for you, we’ve reviewed the pros and cons of all three starters; Power of the Dragon, Synchro of Unity, and Link Generation.

Power Of The Dragon

Power of The Dragon is a classic Yu-Gi-Oh! deck, making use of iconic cards from the original series like Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Lord of D. Fans of the original anime would feel right at home using this homage to Seto Kaiba, but the deck’s simple mechanics make it a great choice for brand new players as well.

The deck’s core strategy revolves around dragon monsters and fusion summoning, the oldest and most simple special summoning mechanic in the game. King Dragon and Five-Headed dragon, which are both included in the pack’s extra deck, are very powerful monsters that can turn the tide of a duel in your favor.

Link Generation

Link Generation uses a mechanic called Link Summoning, which has players send monsters with a Link Rating to the graveyard to someone even stronger monsters. It’s like a ramping power effect, where you start small and summon stronger and stronger monsters as you continue to sacrifice cards.

Link Generation also makes use of a cool cyber-mecha theme, with lots of retro-looking robots filling out your monster cards. It’s a very pleasant aesthetic which definitely plays into Yu-Gi-Oh’s classic theme of building a deck around a sick-looking archetype.

Synchro of Unity

Finally, we come to Synchro of Unity, which is THG’s pick for the strongest start deck in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. The deck makes use of Synchro Summoning, which is like a more complicated version of Link Summoning; By combining Tuner monsters of the same level, players can summon powerful Synchro monsters straight from their extra deck.

What really makes Synchro of Unity strong is the incredibly powerful effects most Synchro and even Tuner monsters come with. Cards such as Junk Warrior, a 2300 ATK / 1300 DEF card with text that reads “If this card is Synchro summoned, it gains ATK equal to the total ATK of all level 2 monsters you currently control” give players a serious edge when they start touching the board.

Not only do Synchro monsters themselves have powerful abilities, but the deck’s playstyle of constantly throwing out low-cost monsters makes it an absolute beast to deal with. Just when your opponent starts to get a hold on the onslaught of monster cards thrown at them, you’re suddenly summoning game-ending extra deck monsters for practically no cost.

Synchro of Unity’s power lies in it’s simple reliability. Why Synchro summoning might seem confusing at first, it doesn’t take long to master and when you do you know pretty much exactly how your deck is going to play every game. There are very few surprises with this deck, and you don’t need to rely on drawing the right cards to get your extra deck monsters on the field.

Remember that just because one deck is stronger than others doesn’t mean that it’s the only choice; You should pick the deck with the playstyle you enjoy the most. A player who understands their deck’s playstyle can easily beat a stronger deck if their opponent doesn’t know what they’re doing.

great content! this definitely will help a lot of players out. I would have just picked the linked deck because it’s the newest (and therefore most powerful). when you look for this same thing somewhere else, you don’t get an answer. also, perfect job on getting this out so early. I didn’t know this game was out until the day after.
