Bitwave Games has proven they have a genuine passion for retro gaming, with some really neat selections for their ongoing ports. There’s an equal share of the obscure and the icons in their catalog of published games. Most recently, they brought action platformer Gimmick! Special Edition to modern audiences.

Today’s arcade collection assembles some real treasures from Toaplan, who was one of the most renowned developers in the shoot ’em up genre. Surprisingly, Bitwave Games still hasn’t mustered a port for Tiger-Heli, but Slap Fight does go back to their earliest years.

Today’s trailer also mentions a variety of features, like making the Japanese versions available for purists. But modern features like multiplayer co-op, quick saves, and online rankings are definitely going to make these games more accessible.

Some players might be unfamiliar, and simply browsing to expand their retro library. Very Easy mode and Rewind features are certainly friendly. This way, players are more likely to enjoy the late game, and they can briefly pick up their collection to enjoy some quick nostalgia. Gamers still enjoy ports of the classics, and it’s a delight to see icons like Atari thrive with titles like Mr. Run and Jump.

Bitwave Games has done a good job of creating a new community around these classics with leaderboards and more.
