Blood Bowl 3, the next anticipated sequel in the hit fantasy death sport series from developer Cyanide Studio and publisher Nacon, has just released a 2023 roadmap. This included a release date for Season 1, as well as release windows for Seasons 2 and 3. Content, new features, and improvements were all listed for each season.
Blood Bowl III launches on February 23rd, 2023. It will be available on PC, the Nintendo Switch, and both of the latest gens for PlayStation and Xbox.
Publisher Nacon announced the 2023 roadmap in detail today on their official Twitch account, during a new dev stream that was teased over the weekend:
Today’s roadmap reinforced that Blood Bowl III will pace itself carefully, following the announcement that its new season system would update every three months. This should be a fine balance of breathing room and fresh content, so the devs can meet fan demands and retain interest. Some indie games overreach a bit and end up falling behind on quality.
This pacing will really matter because each season plans to introduce a brand-new faction, aside from the obligatory “Blood Pass”. New factions will surely need balancing changes, especially with the freedom of abilities that fantasy allows.
The roadmap’s upcoming features are a little underwhelming, with simple additions like an official ladder and spectator mode, both of which are oddly absent at launch. However, the quality-of-life improvements will be hugely instrumental in building the fanbase.
Season 2 will introduce the ability to rejoin games after disconnecting, which is a serious issue that prevents the tide from turning abruptly in competitive titles. Even better, Season 3 is expected to roll out crossplay, which is a golden feature for any game that allows more friends to play together.
