Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu’s Wrath, an upcoming action platformer from indie developer Infinity Experience and publisher Catness Game Studios, will launch on May 26th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch. You can watch the new release date trailer on the official Infinity Experience YouTube channel here:
Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu’s Wrath really puts an emphasis on the “2”, but it isn’t a sequel. It’s actually meant to stress how important it will be for players to master the unique mechanics of two different heroes.
It doesn’t support coop, which may seem disappointing for some. After all, a platforming duo would have a nice arcade ring to it. But juggling the abilities of either protagonist is one of the key features of the game. Players will swap between the heroes in real-time, which is a rare mechanic. It calls to mind Marvel vs. Capcom, where fighters swap in and out mid-battle.
Mastering fluid movements and strategy should feel very rewarding in a platformer. That synergy can then evolve throughout the game, as players have the chance to upgrade with new abilities.
The setting for Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu’s Wrath is feudal Japan, which naturally resulted in some fascinating lore. The devs seem to have made the most of their Japanese mythology.
The enemies and level design largely boast some very unique details, and their mechanics follow suit. Obstacles, special effects, and attacks feature a variety of neat cultural references. The environments are colorful and dense, even without the layers of typical modern platformers.
Overall, Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu’s Wrath works hard to ensure that the Japanese inspiration does not come off like a gimmick. Since this platformer is coming to consoles too, it definitely has potential to build a fanbase among even the most casual gamers.
