Today’s trailer reveals a variety of tools that are certain to drastically improve quality of life, which really underlines just how much time has passed since the original hit. Cities: Skylines II promises to expand on many of its existing mechanics, while introducing a more streamlined and accessible approach. And the balancing act the devs have pulled off with that approach is truly impressive.

Although roads will “automatically carry water, electricity, and sewage lines”, reducing layers of management, these details ultimately became more of a chore over time. The new emphasis on building on a larger scale will allow players to try out broader ideas first, and then fine-tuning it to their liking. It will be more of a canvas experience, which is smoother and far more effective.

There are also a lot of replacement features, which is going to make it very comfortable to resolve mistakes. It will also allow players to easily create better consistency as inspiration strikes later on, and your city changes from one area to the next.

On top of all the remarkably simple but game-changing improvements, the technical side of things still looks intuitive. A surprising amount of information was revealed today, so it’ll be exciting to see what other aspects the devs are willing to explore ahead of launch.
