Flooded, developer Artificial Disasters’ strategic city builder about escaping a shrinking island, has just released a third post-release update and patch notes. The update introduces two new technologies for Terraforming, a lower difficulty level called “Relaxed”, and more.

Flooded is available now on PC via Steam and GOG, with no word on a console port yet. Here’s the full update announcement from the game’s official Twitter feed, which links to the complete patch notes:

Flooded recently launched a couple of weeks ago after a brief delay, which let the developer add more content in response to fan feedback. And they are continuing to listen and improve with the same dedication after launch, already patching in three more updates.

The basic premise of Flooded, in which rising water forces players to successfully manage city building mechanics, is the primary hook and creates a very compelling urgency. However, it’s still a fairly accessible and streamlined game.

As a result, there have been plenty of newcomers, and Flooded is balancing out to become a little more friendly in today’s update.

A “Relaxed” difficulty level sort of compromises the focal point of the game, compared to smaller changes like the removal of early acid rain, or expanding later islands. But it does offer a chance to practice and become accustomed to the gameplay flow. If Flooded’s theme already connects with players who are unfamiliar with the genre, it is now a perfect introduction.

A lot of the bug fixes are small, and mainly cosmetic, but Terraforming is an ambitious and neat addition that should shake up your overall strategies. It highlights the flexibility of the creative foundation, and the game is still evolving in the right direction.
