Sengoku Dynasty, an upcoming city builder set in Japan from developer Superkami and publisher Toplitz Productions, has revealed the first episode of their new series Pillars of the Rising Sun. According to a new blog post on Steam, the series will explain the “essential buildings, their functions and how you can use them to your advantage”.

Sengoku Dynasty is currently slated to launch into Early Access in Q3 2023. It will be available on PC, and you can wishlist the game on Steam now. You can watch today’s new Bell Tower teaser on the Toplitz Productions YouTube channel:

Bell Towers seem like a small feature for Sengoku Dynasty, which features an expansive open world. In fact, it turns out that Bell Towers will be the center of every village. Players will need to build within its radius, and more Bell Towers can be unlocked by completing quests. New towers can also be placed “wherever you want”, according to today’s trailer, which implies some remarkable freedom.

The most anticipated city builder is probably the definitive series’ sequel Cities: Skylines II, which released a new transportation trailer earlier today. But Sengoku Dynasty features a gripping theme, and the new Pillars of the Rising Sun series is a great opportunity to show how its attention to detail will distinguish the game.

The Bell Tower is fairly simple, both in its appearance and mechanic. It’s a neat way to create some structure for players out in an open world. The materials also have an air of authenticity, so it’ll be a treat to see the devs explore other important buildings.

The environment was another highlight in today’s trailer. The terrain has a distinct personality, filled with lush and unique foliage. It also shows off changing seasons and engaging color palettes.
