While many kids today will likely have never heard of it, the NES console was one of the founders of console gaming, introducing exciting and innovative titles. One of the beloved titles by fans was Gimmick!, a classic physics platformer from SUNSOFT, and it releases today on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and the Nintendo Switch.
Gimmick! Special Edition was launched alongside a trailer showcasing the gameplay for players who were unaware of the title, showing gameplay reminiscent of the older Super Mario titles. There are also new features like the ability to rewind, quick save, new art and music, and new modes to increase the time that players will enjoy the game.
The music and visuals will be very nostalgic for anyone who was playing games around the 1990s, transporting players back to another time. However, the challenges posed in this title are very real, and current players will have just as much of a challenge taking on some of the threats posed by the antagonizing forces in Gimmick!.
Players who are eager to test themselves can also try the speedrun mode that puts a time tracker and the ability to split up your time in between levels to see if you can get the best score. These older titles are usually hits among the speedrunning community, so it will be interesting to see if this title is able to pick up any steam.
The title releases today on all current-gen platforms and players can get it for a 10 percent discount on Steam.
