The New York Times Games division has made its recently developed puzzle game, Connections, accessible across all its platforms starting this week. Solvers can find the game not only on the New York Times Games app available for iOS and Android but also on desktop and mobile web browsers. The app, free to download, features a range of puzzles including Wordle, Spelling Bee, The Crossword, and The Mini, targeting players with varying skill levels.
Connections aims to test the wit, vocabulary, and creative problem-solving skills of players. The rules involve being presented with 16 words and identifying the hidden relationships among them to organize them into four distinct groups of four words each. To guide players, the categories are color-coded: yellow is the most straightforward, followed by green, blue, and purple, which is deemed the trickiest. A noteworthy point is that players have only four attempts to solve the entire puzzle.
It’s worth noting that since its launch, Connections has garnered attention, becoming the second-most-played game on the New York Times Games platform after Wordle. Moreover, more than half of the new users accessing New York Times Games via social channels are arriving for Connections. Data reveals that approximately 9 out of 10 people who attempt the puzzle daily either complete it or run out of guesses.
Jonathan Knight, the head of Games at The New York Times, states that Connections reflects the company’s ongoing effort to diversify their portfolio of games. He emphasizes that each Connections puzzle is hand-crafted and edited to offer solvers a clever, thoughtful, and relevant challenge. Looking ahead, the game will also soon become part of the Play tab in The New York Times app, adding another avenue for players to access this particular puzzle.
