As of March 8th, a brand new killer has been stalking the Entity’s realm. Televisions displaying an eerie static have been placed around the hunting grounds, and from the world behind their screens stalks a vengeful spirit; Sadako, the Onryo, has arrived, and it’s time for the most skilled of killers to learn how to walk in her shoes.

The Onryo Power Guide
Sadako’s power is called “Deluge of Fear” and is one of the more complicated Killer abilities in the game so far. The power comes in two parts, allowing Sadako to “Manifest” and “Demanifest.” While Manifested, Sadako is a normal killer with nothing really special; In fact, some players have taken to saying she’s rather lackluster in the chase, and I find myself agreeing.

Demanifesting is the second part of her power, and is where things start to get interesting. While Demanifested, Sadako has no terror radius, and won’t appear to survivors beyond 24 meters, making her completely invisible. While within 24 meters, Sadako will begin to phase in and out of the survivor’s vision, much like the Spirit, and this continues for a few seconds after the Onryo manifests. Sadako must manifest in order to damage and hook survivors.
Effectively, this makes Sadako one of, if not the best Stealth killer in the game, rivaling Ghost Face with her ability to sneak around. While Demanifested, Sadako can use Project to teleport to any powered on TV on the map, instantly Manifesting her and giving her a speed buff.
After Projecting, any survivor near the TV receives a stack of Condemned. Survivors can also use VHS tapes to turn TVs off temporarily, stacking more Condemned. When Condemned is fully stacked, the survivor is revealed by Killer Instinct and Sadako can kill the downed survivor with a special mori.
Sadako’s power is incredibly strong in a clever Killer’s hands. A Demanifested Sadako can traverse the map nearly completely undetected, and use Projection to ambush unsuspecting survivors working on a generator, while setting them up for a quick Mori death. Because of this, perks like Discordance and Surveillance can be incredibly useful on her.

A slightly harder but very rewarding Sadako trick is Chase Projecting. This is something I discovered while playing her, but is probably pretty obvious once you get to understand the killer; Because you see the outline of all Televisions on the map, you can chase survivors towards them and then Demanifest, confusing them with the sudden loss of your red stain and terror radius before Projecting in front of them, adding to their Condemned status and gaining move speed.
Clever use of Demanifest can make looping the Onryo a challenge, as her sudden invisibility can be hard to track. Use this to make up for Sadako’s otherwise subpar chase ability.
The Onryo Perks Guide
Like every other killer in Dead By Daylight, the Onryo comes with three unique killer perks. These perks are initially available exclusively to Sadako, but as you progress through the bloodweb you’ll unlock teachable versions of the perks that will then appear for your other killers.

Teachable perks are unlocked when the Onryo reaches levels 30, 35, and 40. These perks are as follows;
Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage
You form a psychic connection with The Entity and alter the rules of the Trial.
At the start of the Trial, 4 random Hooks are changed into Scourge Hooks:
- The Auras of Scourge Hooks are revealed to you in white.
- Each time a Survivor is unhooked from a Scourge Hook, the following effects apply: The Auras of all other Survivors are revealed for 5/6/7 seconds.
Call of Brine
Your psychic abilities influence technology in devastating ways.
After damaging a Generator, Call of Brine activates for 60 seconds.
- The Generator regresses at 150/175/200 % of the normal Regression speed and its Aura is revealed to you.
- Each time a Survivor completes a Good Skill Check on a Generator affected by Call of Brine, you receive a Loud Noise Notification.
Merciless Storm
Your horrible trauma is felt by everyone.
- Whenever a Generator is repaired to 90 %, Survivors repairing it are faced with continuous Skill Checks.
- If they miss one or stop repairing, the Generator becomes blocked for 16/18/20 seconds.
Floods of Rage gives Sadako some extra survivor tracking, revealing everyone’s aura whenever one of her victims is unhooked. This can make rescuing survivors a dangerous game of risk vs reward, potentially sabotaging what would have otherwise been a successful gen rush or healing action in order to prolong a sacrifice.
Call of Brine is arguably the Onryo’s strongest perk. Not only is it great generator regression, it helps you track survivor progress on one specific generator. Call of Brine allows you to find and control a focussed generator, reverting survivor progress and keeping them from rushing it.
Merciless Storm is underrated, especially when empowered by Call of Brine. This effectively gives you a safety net against finished gens; Blocking a nearly finished generator gives you time to rotate and drop Brine on it, effectively stopping a generator from being finished and potentially reverting it back to 0 with enough attention. This can completely destabilize your prey’s escape.
The best perk combinations for Sadako are still being tested, but I personally like taking her three perks and Discordance. Monitor and Abuse is another great perk on Sadako, as she doesn’t need to worry about Terror Radius increase or decreases and can just take the increased FOV.
