Dead Island 2, the highly anticipated sequel in the zombie action series from developer and publisher Deep Silver, has just released a complete cinematic title sequence. Dead Island 2 is slated to launch on April 21st, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, including their last-gen consoles. You can watch the full title sequence on the official Xbox YouTube channel here:
Naturally, today’s new preview of the titles doesn’t give away any gameplay footage. But it does give fans an idea of the tone, setting, and potential environments that players will be able to explore.
The moody song and blood-soaked disaster scenery sort of contradicts all of the goofy, over-the-top action that was teased in the extended gameplay reveal from earlier this month. But there are still hints of that playful energy in some of the imagery throughout the trailer.
The titles open with an eyeball in a martini glass, which is just plain amusing, and never mind how it got there. The burning palm tree and bottle, or the Hollywood star featuring the title, are also kind of tongue-in-cheek. They also happen to be very creative.
It’s possible that the gameplay will also manage to balance both the seriousness and cheese. If so, the gameplay revealed earlier this month would be an odd selection, since it focused on potheads with undeniably corny dialogue.
Hopefully, since the devs were able to use the new location so cleverly for their title sequence, it will play just as large a role in the gameplay. That’s going to be crucial after all of the marketing has placed so much emphasis on it. What you do get in today’s title sequence is a sense of variety, which should be pretty fun to explore.
