Friends vs Friends, an upcoming first-person shooter with deckbuilding from developer Brainwash Gang and publisher Raw Fury, will officially launch later this month on May 30th, 2023. It will feature PvP action, card-based loadouts, and even private matches.
Friends vs Friends will be available on PC via Steam. Other specific platforms haven’t been confirmed, but a console port is expected “later this year” according to the new trailer from Raw Fury’s YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer is very frenetic, but it still manages to reveal quite a lot. To begin with, it covers the basic gameplay loop in full. Players will be opening classic booster packs, assembling or upgrading useful decks, and selecting unique characters to delve into small-scale duels online.
Specific cards were explained in detail with the Trickster Cards teaser from last month. But today’s trailer also offered a few glimpses of new cards, one of which is “Mind Blowing”. The card literally exposes the enemy’s brain, which really leans into the bizarre, Saturday morning cartoon attitude of the game.
Friends vs Friends’ sense of humor is probably going to be divisive, but those who already enjoy it should be pleased. Also, players shouldn’t be surprised by the tone, given the cel shading, comic book style art design.
The new trailer further revealed a few stages and all of the key characters, which was a surprise. They’re full of personality, with terrific designs that are distinguishable yet thematically consistent. This should spark some curiosity about the potential for later additions.
Friends vs Friends feels like a simple and straightforward action spectacle, wisely aiming for a loop that’s easy to pick up and play for just a few casual rounds. That actually seems better suited for console play, so hopefully there’ll be a release window for that soon.
