Friends vs Friends, an upcoming PvP shooter and deckbuilder from developer Brainwash Gang and publisher Raw Fury, has just released another gameplay trailer featuring Trickster Cards.
A release window still hasn’t been announced for Friends vs Friends. The supported platforms have only been broadly confirmed as “PC and consoles”, but it will be available on Steam. You can watch today’s new Trickster Cards trailer on the Raw Fury YouTube channel:
Friends vs Friends has a very unusual world, with environments and character designs that seem to be intentionally disagreeable. That approach has been effective elsewhere though, as in the Sludge Life series, which recently announced a sequel.
Grimy worlds can be good for a juvenile laugh, or even serve up some commentary. Friends vs Friends seems to be aiming for the former, but at least its broader visuals also have the feel of 90’s shooters and cel shaded games from the early thousands.
Also, there are plenty of interesting card mechanics in Friends vs Friends, and the new Trickster Cards reinforce that. “Heartless” is a very clever card because it capitalizes on the environment, encouraging players to intelligently use their space, either hiding or seeking out the heart.
Card battlers are often reserved for turn-based games, or even rely on the cards alone. It’s nice to see how Friends vs Friends takes advantage of its movement and the pacing of real-time combat.
In fact, aside from some of the simpler cards that use familiar shooter mechanics like smoke grenades, there are a lot of cards that directly impact mechanics altogether. That’s going to create a lot of chaos, probably even more so than a hero shooter, as gameplay will constantly be in flux.
