Definitely Not Fried Chicken, the upcoming management sim with a criminal and humorous twist, has just gotten a 6-month roadmap that covers Early Access to the 1.0 launch. Definitely Not Fried Chicken will enter Early Access on January 18th, 2023. It will be available on PC, with other platform support yet to be announced. Here’s the full details on the future of the indie from publisher Merge Games:

Definitely Not Fried Chicken is clearly inspired by the fictional Pollos Hermanos, where players basically get to try out a Gus Fring simulator. You’ll need to battle the law, competition, and expand your empire. For a review of the gameplay, you can check out the Early Access release date trailer from the publisher’s YouTube channel here:

Given that today’s roadmap announcement hints at “two…pious special clients” in the future, it’s probably making a nod to the two protagonists from Breaking Bad. Then again, as the full story will be introduced, continued and concluded through the 1.0 update, it looks like another two clients will be added, so this may be a red herring.

There is a definite sense of fun here, with a similar tone to Two Point Campus, which recently released a Space Academy DLC and deliberately aims for laughs. Developer Dope Games has smartly chosen a lane, and has lots of potential.

Definitely Not Fried Chicken promises over-the-top violence and ridiculousness to the point of cartoonish amusement. The premise itself is playful, and the art design has the same kind of blocky charm as Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. In the trailers so far, Definitely Not Fried Chicken is missing just enough detail to make the animations more humorous than silly.
