Disney Speedstorm, the Disney-themed kart racer from developer and publisher Gameloft, has finally launched into Early Access today accompanied by a new trailer. Although it is not currently free to play, it will become FTP once the game launches in full.
Disney Speedstorm is available now on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as the Nintendo Switch and current or last-gen consoles for PlayStation and Xbox fans. You can watch the new official launch trailer on the Disney Speedstorm YouTube channel:
Disney Speedstorm has finally arrived with quite a stumble. Unfortunately, many players were left unable to download their pre-orders, or even buy the game on PC for a couple of hours. The developers quickly posted a known issues update addressing these key problems, as well as missing Founder’s Packs rewards, and state they will continue to keep fans updated:
Aside from the technical side of things, Disney Speedstorm’s actual gameplay has predominantly been met with a warm welcome. Following the parade of marketing trailers, which had some fans concerned that the game would rely on IP alone, it turns out the mechanics are effective in their own right. They just happen to also successfully incorporate very thematic ideas, which was the ideal outcome.
The game has mostly struck the correct balance between fan service and legitimate kart racing fun, delivering something a little more action-packed and hero-driven than the competing titles.
It genuinely seems like Disney Speedstorm will boast strong longevity, since the potential IP additions are downright limitless. Today’s trailer leaned into that, teasing a Season structure with new racers and tracks. That kind of pacing will be tough to keep up with, and it should rival Mario Kart, which has been rolling out a single new track with each of the latest waves.
