Pocketpair has announced the forthcoming launch of its multiplayer open-world survival crafting game, Palworld. The game is scheduled to be available for PC via Steam’s Early Access program in January 2024.
Palworld offers players a unique blend of leisurely life and high-stakes battles. It centers on the coexistence with fantastical creatures known as “Pals”. These creatures can partake in various activities like battling, breeding, farming, and even factory work. Despite the controversial possibility of selling or slaughtering Pals for food, such practices are legally prohibited within the game.

Survival is a core aspect of Palworld, as players grapple with threats such as food shortages, harsh weather, and illegal poachers. The game pushes boundaries by suggesting that players might even have to resort to consuming Pals in dire circumstances.
The game encourages exploration through riding Pals, facilitating movement across various terrains, including land, sea, and sky. Players can even have their Pals assist in building ambitious projects such as pyramids, conveniently circumventing any labor laws applicable to humans.

Living comfortably in Palworld is facilitated by collecting a variety of Pals. Each Pal offers unique services, such as starting fires, generating power, or mining minerals. When it comes to farming, different Pals specialize in different areas such as sowing, watering, or harvesting crops. Some Pals even have the unique ability to duplicate themselves when planted.
Automation is another critical feature of Palworld, with Pals being essential for manual work within factories. Once a factory is built and Pals placed within, they continue working indefinitely, provided they are kept fed throughout their lifespan.

Palworld also offers elements of danger and excitement, as Pals can safeguard players during dungeon exploration. In dangerous situations, Pals can be used to facilitate a player’s escape, even at the cost of their own lives. Breeding Pals allows for the inheritance of parent characteristics, promoting the cultivation of rare and robust Pals.
Illegal activities, like poaching, add an element of risk to the game. Endangered species of Pals reside within hunting prohibited areas, and players who risk capturing them can potentially amass significant wealth. However, such actions are illegal and could have consequences if players are caught.
