Europa Universalis IV: Domination, the highly anticipated DLC for the long-running sim strategy game from Paradox Interactive, will officially be released on April 18th, 2023. It will be available on PC, and will introduce a global approach that includes Spain, France, and more.
The release date was accompanied by a new pre-order trailer, which teases the bonus music pack “March of Power”. Here is the big announcement from Europa Universalis’ official Twitter feed:
Europa Universalis IV: Domination was revealed earlier this month at Paradox Interactive’s announcement show with a simple cinematic teaser. Any actual details were kept under wraps, and it seems that today’s pre-order trailer has decided to keep things equally vague.
It even shares some of the same epic imagery from the announcement teaser, and the narration is rather straightforward. The pre-order only includes a music pack, which is disappointing. It also leaves very little to break down, so longtime fans will have to continue nitpicking the ongoing dev diaries.
It wasn’t until March 14th that Paradox Interactive started revealing some of the changes that fans should expect, beginning with government mechanics:
Europa Universalis IV will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year, and although it has seen a lot of ups and downs, it remains surprisingly successful. The density of its strategy is very satisfying, the visuals are solid, and there are enough distinguishable mechanics to help it compete with the likes of Civilization.
However, there have been a lot of balancing issues, and it seems that every attempt to rework troublesome systems ends up with all-new problems. Now that the Domination DLC aims to expand the game even further, hopefully the devs will be able to keep up.
