When it comes to their hit title Minecraft, Mojang is no stranger to crossovers, with Minecraft’s Skyrim crossover DLC being one of the earliest and most popular examples to date. This time, we can expect to see an even more popular franchise than The Elder Scrolls remade in Minecraft, as Mojang officially announces the Spongebob Squarepants crossover DLC.
The Spongebob DLC was announced during the latest Minecraft Now video along with several other major updates to the game. We get a first look at the DLC, including an image of the main Spongebob cast remade in Minecraft style standing in front of their iconic houses.
Like other crossover DLCs, we can expect to see the world and cast of Spongebob Squarepants remade in Minecraft for players to enjoy. What this means is that players can expect to see Bikini Bottom, the iconic setting of Spongebob Squarepants, as a playable Minecraft map. While it’s unlikely this map will actually be underwater, players can without a doubt expect to see a ton of sand filling this cartoon world.
This also means that we can expect to see several Spongebob characters playable with this DLC. As soon in the image Mojang used to announce this event, Plankton, Mr Krabs, Patrick, Sandy, Spongebob himself and even Gary have been remade in the Minecraft style — However many of these characters are actually playable, or if there are more we’ve yet to see, remains to be seen.
With many different Minecraft game modes available, it is not impossible that we may be seeing an interactive Bikini Bottom experience, complete with Spongebob characters players can talk to around town.
