Outright Games has published a wide range of titles that are intentionally designed for younger audiences, including everything from Justice League: Cosmic Chaos to Rainbow High: Runway Rush, the latter of which releases later this month.

Some are more thoughtful than others. Many games that are built for kids can more easily coast by on generic mechanics, cheaper graphics, and fewer features. It’s a rare opportunity when kids’ games refuse to pander, and muster just as much effort as anything else in a particular genre, or at the very least some educational content.

The Grinch happens to be a longtime, beloved character. So, it would be nice if families had something a bit more creative than The Grinch: Christmas Adventures. Today’s footage probably didn’t win anyone over who wasn’t impressed by the announcement trailer.

However, it will support cooperative gameplay, which families will surely appreciate. Also, the Steam page does mention there will be some stealth, and today’s trailer shows off a snowboarding level.

The graphics look better than one would expect, with environments that resemble Who-ville enough. The game appears to be referencing the original story, at the very least. Using artwork from the book was a very slick marketing tactic.

Kids, Christmas fanatics, and anyone nostalgic for the early thousands Grinch game from Konami, might also enjoy something like this. But given today’s trailer, The Grinch: Christmas Adventures still seems fated to become something forgettable.
