The Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles, an upcoming open world city builder from developer Tomas Sala and publisher Wired Productions, has revealed a brand-new trailer featuring more gameplay and commentary from the dev.
The Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles has not confirmed a release date, but it’s expected to be “coming soon” according to the Steam page, where a demo is playable now. The game will be available on PC, with no word on a console release yet. You can watch today’s new trailer on the Wired Productions YouTube channel:
The city builder genre has been very busy lately, and Cities: Skylines 2 is swiftly approaching, a highlight from Paradox Interactive’s recent announcement show. It’s crucial for a city builder to develop a sandbox that’s worth exploring and expanding.
Fortunately, The Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles has smartly committed to a very unique fantasy theme, with elements of Steampunk. Because this is consistent throughout the world, players should have a sense that they are guiding and participating in a Bulwark that could very well thrive with or without them. There’s a sense of history here, and any other kind of adventure in this world would be worthwhile.
The Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles also features a forgiving art design, which is neither heavily detailed nor too simplistic. The variety of landscapes, elevation and environments should have more than enough range to inspire player creativity.
The blending also offers a nice balance of flexibility and intuitive, minimalist controls. This game should be more accessible for newcomers to the genre, who may not be accustomed to thinking out a distinct vision and then hoping for the most complex tools to realize it.
The Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles seems very accessible, and would actually benefit from a console port or two, so hopefully that’ll come up later on.
