Forest Ranger Simulator, an upcoming sim game where players take on the responsibilities of saving forests, has just released a new trailer today. The Kickstarter campaign will begin next week on January 12th, 2023. It is currently aiming for a Q2 release this year.
The devs have stated that some of the game’s profits will be donated to actual foundations. Here’s the full trailer from publisher PlayWay’s YouTube channel:
PlayWay continues their cause-driven publishing with Forest Ranger Simulator. It supports animals just like Animal Shelter Simulator, which recently announced Horse Shelter DLC. However, today’s trailer looks a bit more ambitious. The environments are larger, and they boast more detailed graphics. There are also more features, including a Sandbox mode that’ll let players make up their own fun.
The Steam page hints that players will need to ward off poachers, tend to animals and pick up trash. You’ll also be learning about nature itself. The mechanics in today’s trailer look interesting, and the scenery is gorgeous. It should be a pretty relaxing game overall, so the contrasting trailer music feels a little odd.
Simulation games often thrive on their freedom, immersion, and serene pacing. They traditionally aim for totally silly fun, or challenging and satisfying realism.
Forest Ranger Simulator does come off just a little academic. Although simulating such a unique occupation may be interesting for fans of the genre, more casual gamers may not be able to wrap their heads around the deeply environmental approach.
To be fair, the gameplay itself is probably quite an accurate representation of the job. And it’s always nice when gaming can have a real positive impact. Hopefully, Forest Ranger Simulator turns out to be entertaining first and foremost.
