Forspoken, the action fantasy RPG from developer Luminous Productions and publisher Square Enix, has finally released gameplay for the upcoming paid DLC “In Tanta We Trust”. Just a few weeks ago, the update was announced to release on May 26th, 2023, and Early Access will begin on May 23rd, 2023.

In Tanta We Trust will be a prequel to the core game, featuring a new set of magical abilities, and the opportunity to fight alongside Tanta Cinta. You can watch the full gameplay trailer for the new DLC on the official PlayStation YouTube channel:

Forspoken has been rather divisive since it first launched, largely due to the game’s playful tone and characters. It can also feel a little generic, and even redundant at times.

However, a lot of casual players have started to roll with some of its less accessible qualities and come to enjoy the fundamental mechanics. The parkour is a delight, the enemy designs are decent, and the DLC has an opportunity to elaborate on those highlights.

Today’s trailer shows off how battling alongside Tanta opens up a lot of new gameplay avenues that Forspoken probably would have benefited from since the beginning. Combat has often been considered a challenge already, but it isn’t very layered. Tanta’s attacks can be used for combos, which will feel a lot more flexible.

It’s also neat to see how Tanta can be used for map traversal in today’s teaser, hinting at more verticality and distance. Using the two heroes to access different areas should create even more freedom, and movement was already the most entertaining thing about Forspoken.

The new DLC probably won’t change any minds, but fans who enjoyed the base game’s simple thrills should definitely be pleased with the chance for a companion and new lore.
