Fortnite‘s Crew pack seems to still be in an experimental phase, with Epic Games trying out new things in recent months to make it even better for players. Now, the July 2023 Crew Pack has been announced as the start of a new Legacy Crew set following the success of the pickaxe from late last year, which campaign ended around March or April.

According to the official blog post from Epic Games, players will immediately receive three cosmetics once they’re subscribed after the start of the v25.11 update on June 27. After that point, players will need to stay subscribed for four additional months, with pauses allowed, in order to unlock the complete set.

The first stage will award three cosmetics immediately, including the Winter’s Trickster banner icon, the Tricksters Unite! emoticon, and the Trickster Charge Spray. These are the less favored cosmetic items in the community, so it makes sense that Epic would give those away first if it was trying to build retention in the Fortnite Crew subscription. The subscription currently sits around $12 USD plus local taxes.

The next stages release one or two items each, being the more valued type of cosmetics among the community. They include:

  • Stage 2: The Underfox Lobby Track
  • Stage 3: Outfoxed Wrap
  • Stage 4: Skulk Pack back bling
  • Stage 5: Volpez outfit

This is essentially a reduction in cosmetic sets offered per month unless there’s a separate Crew pack, but Epic has also been adding things to the subscription like the Rocket League battle pass in addition to its own. It seems that the company wants players who are able to stay subscribed for longer as opposed to a system where players can subscribe and unsubscribe based on if they like a skin that month.

This is likely the start of a system that rewards those who renew their subscriptions, replacing the value of the cosmetics with other benefits.
