Front Mission 2 is a tactical role-playing game developed by G-Craft and published by Square Enix. It was first released in Japan for the original PlayStation console in 1997. Front Mission 2 is considered the second main entry and the third entry overall in the Front Mission series. As with its predecessors, Front Mission 2 is part of a serialized storyline that explores the stories of several characters and their conflicts with Wanzers. The game was never released outside of Japan due to its scenarios and words that would be deemed inappropriate in North America.

In 2022 a remake for the Nintendo Switch, titled Front Mission 2: Remake, was announced to be developed and published by Forever Entertainment. It was also revealed that the game will finally be available outside of Japan for the first time.

Recently, Forever Entertainment announced that Front Mission 2: Remake will be released for the Nintendo Switch on June 12th, 2023. Take a look at the FRONT MISSION 2: Remake Premiere Date Announcement Trailer, courtesy of ForeverEntertainment’s official Youtube channel:

Similar to the 1997 version, Front Mission 2: Remake takes place 12 years after the events of Front Mission 1. The story is presented through the alternating perspectives of three characters named Ash, Lisa, and Thomas, which results in a worldview that is more complex than a straightforward contrast between good and evil. The remake retains the mature story, strategic turn-based combat, and Wanzer customization options of the original while also making several substantial enhancements.

Even from the trailer, it is evident that significant improvements have been made to Front Mission 2. The most notable of the upgrades is the game’s visuals, which appear more detailed and polished than its 1997 version. Meanwhile, here are the other improvements made to the remake of the classic tactical RPG:

  • Improved loading speed
  • Support for many new languages (EN, FR, ES, PT, IT, DE, PL, ZH, JA)
  • New ‘free camera’ option to zoom in during gameplay and check out Wanzers in detail
  • New coloring and camouflage options
  • Modern in-game effects
  • Renewed soundtrack

You may add Front Mission 2: Remake now to your Nintendo eShop wishlist to be notified when it becomes available.
