Today, Guild Wars 2 welcomed a new chapter in its evolving storyline, titled ‘What Lies Within.’ This fresh content is available for free to all players who own the Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons expansion. Building on the suspense stirred by the Jade Brotherhood mining operations in the ‘What Lies Beneath’ story arc, this new update pushes the commander and their allies to resolve the crisis in Gyala Delve. The central mission involves confronting the ravenous wanderer plaguing the depths, driving it up to the surface, and defeating it.
Initiating the new narrative is straightforward—players can find it in the story journal in their Hero panel. After selecting ‘What Lies Within,’ they simply click ‘Play This Episode,’ and a letter from Gorrik will arrive to set the stage.

The expansion of Gyala Delve is one of the update’s key highlights, enhancing the zone’s explorable areas and enriching its meta-events. The storyline concludes after the ‘End of Dragons’ narrative, giving players a chance to explore the entire map. Adventurous players might want to test their skills at the downhill roller beetle time trial. In addition, new adventures are making their way to previous maps, including Seitung Province, New Kaineng City, and the Echovald Wilds. The first-ever co-op siege turtle adventures, jade bot tech-powered missions, and two permanent skiff races offer plenty of engaging activities. Furthermore, new events in the form of oni ambushes will be added to other ‘End of Dragons’ maps, making every journey through Cantha’s corners a thrilling experience.
The ‘What Lies Within’ update features the much-anticipated conclusion of the ‘What Lies Beneath’ storyline. This climactic ending is set within the expanded Gyala Delve map-wide meta-event, which includes the Jade Brotherhood’s final battle with the mysterious wanderer. Players are also invited to relax and engage in a series of adventure activities throughout Seitung Province, New Kaineng City, and the Echovald Wilds. After the meta-event’s conclusion, players can enjoy a more tranquil Gyala Delve.
The addition of aesthetic rewards keeps the adventurous spirit alive among players. These include the Special Ops armor set, compatible with heavy, medium, and light armor, the Special Ops Captain’s Helmet Skin, and the Hazard Response Pack back item. Players can also obtain the Energized Luxon Hunter’s weapon set and a Mini Phoenix. Rare Energized Luxon Hunter’s Weapon Caches are now available while using new air filters. Mining caches could even yield new weapons such as the Xunlai Deep-Mining Hand Drill, Repurposed Drill Leveler, and Xunlai Nephrite Crusher. Thruster Control Units, previously accessible only through Strike Missions and necessary for unlocking the siege turtle mount, are now available from Jade Brotherhood Requisitions Specialists in Gyala Delve.
In celebration of this release, Twitch Drops have been activated until May 28. Players can earn the Warrior Quaggan Backpack Set, Upgrade Extractors, the End of Dragons Emblem Clothing Outfit, and a Bag Slot Expansion simply by tuning in to Guild Wars 2 streams on Twitch.
