Haikyu Anime Series Revealed To End With A Two Part Film In 2023

Haikyu announced from its “Haikyu!!” × “V.LEAGUE” Warm-Up Event that the anime would conclude its series with a movie sequel that will be released in 2023.

Haikyu is originally a Japanese illustrated manga series serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2012 to July 2020. The sports shonen manga tells the story of a small high school student, Shoyo Hinata, and his journey to becoming among the greatest volleyball players. Haikyu was eventually adapted into an anime series, which contributed to its increased popularity all over the globe.

The sports anime series, Haikyu, has come a long way, having its first season on April 6, 2014. A year ago, Haikyu just premiered its fourth season, covering the Spring Nationals arc of the manga. In 2020, the Haikyu manga series ended with its Timeskip arc, taking the plot to the future where most characters have already parted ways with their individual pursuits and the main protagonist, Hinata, had already pursued a professional Volleyball player career.

Recently, Haikyu had its “Haikyu!!” x “V.LEAGUE” Warm-Up Event. During this event, the cast of the anime, as well as the creator of Haikyu, Haruichi Furudate, came to participate in an interview and announce the forthcoming Haikyu projects. Eventually, the event also revealed that the “Haikyu!! Final” movie would be a two-part film sequel that will cover the remaining events in Haikyu’s story. The movie will hold its kick-off event in August 2023.

Things have taken an unexpected turn with the revelation that a Haikyu movie would be released in 2023, as fans initially anticipated that Haikyu would have a Season 5 in 2022. Since there is still a significant amount of content to cover from the remainder of the manga series, fans seem to have mixed feelings over the idea of a Haikyu movie rather than the continuation of the anime adaptation. As such, a two-part movie may not be enough, and it could eliminate a lot of panels from the manga, which dissatisfies some fans.
